Emerging Manufacturing Collaboration Center

BIC Indianapolis: Powering Innovation at EMC2

Bridging the Gap from Prototype to Production

Located in the heart of the 16 Tech Innovation District, the Battery Innovation Center (BIC) has expanded its footprint into the Emerging Manufacturing Collaboration Center (EMC2). This strategic expansion serves as a high-tech "front door" to Indiana’s burgeoning battery corridor, providing a centralized hub where startups, global OEMs, and researchers can accelerate the commercialization of next-generation energy storage.

Capabilities at BIC Indianapolis

The EMC2 facility is designed to complement our primary headquarters by offering specialized, low-volume manufacturing and advanced prototyping in a collaborative, downtown environment.

🔋 Advanced Cell Fabrication
Our state-of-the-art 4,000-square-foot Dry Room expansion allows for the precise assembly and testing of moisture-sensitive chemistries, including:
Lithium-Ion & Solid-State: High-precision coating, winding, and stacking.
Form Factor Flexibility: Support for pouch, cylindrical (18650/21700), and prismatic cell formats.
Pilot Line Access: Transition your chemistry from lab-scale to manufacturing-scale without the capital overhead of a full factory.

🛠️ Process De-Risking & Incubation
We provide the "sandbox" for innovators to fail fast and scale safely.
Technology Insertion: Test new materials (anodes, cathodes, electrolytes) in a real-world manufacturing environment.
IP-Secure Environment: Work in a collaborative space where your intellectual property remains yours.
Equipment Access: Utilize world-class equipment and specialized battery assembly tools.

🎓 Workforce Development
As the Midwest evolves into a "Battery Belt," the BIC at EMC2 serves as the premier training ground for the energy workforce.
Battery Basics & Advanced Tech Training: Hands-on curriculum for technicians and engineers.
Academic Partnerships: Integrated programs with regional institutions to pipeline talent into the industry.
